[입트영] 04/23 Yongsan garrison

US Forces have been stationed in South Korea ever since the Korean War back in the fifties.
Obviously, from a political and a military stand point they help insure stability in Northeast Asia as they help keep North Korea in check.
However, the military presence in Korea is a real thorny issue with many Koreans.
 First off, SOFA protects US Troops from (???) of the Korean raw when the individuals break the raw. There is often public uproar over crimes commited by US military personnel.
 Second, some Koreans are unhappy that Korean pay so much money to suppport that prisons here. A good example was the hot debate of the cost for the relocation of Yongsan garrison down south. Another source of the contention is the demaged US bases inflict on the environment.
 Despite these contravacies US Forces won't be leaving Korea any time soon
